the throne is burning, I’ve been reading the Lonely Planet Cities Book...
February 12, 2012 - 3 months ago - O

I’ve been reading the Lonely Planet Cities Book (which is awsome, it’s like a factsheet on all these different cities with places to go and things to see - if you’re interested in travel/the world at all I definitely recommend getting it, there’s 200 cities all up), which is loads of fun and ofc because i am me is leading to a bajillion wikipedia pages and research into random ass places I’ve never even heard of before which is gr9 tbqh.

The cities are ranked, and the top 10 are mostly the usual suspects (from first to last): Paris, New York, Sydney (smfh tbqh), Barcelona, London, Rome, San Francisco, Bangkok, Cape Town and Istanbul. It’s a pretty strong list (I would want to go to all these places, besides of course Sydney as I’ve lived there, and I could maybe give Bangkok a miss - also I would want to see Madrid over Barcelona but that’s just me), but it definitely wouldn’t be my top 10. WHICH I WILL CLEARLY LIST NOW OK YAY OK

Top 10 Cities to Visit:

  • Venice (surprised this wasn’t on the list? It seems to be tourist dream - maybe not so much as Rome but seriously now)
  • Cartagena (sue me, I’m curious. I’d actually like to travel a lot in the Central/South American/Caribbean area, but hey I’ve read a lot of Gabriel Garcia Marquez oKAY)
  • Hong Kong (SO MANY THINGS TO SEE, SO LITTLE TIME!! I’m interested in the culture combination of Hong Kong as well - a little Chinese, a little British, a lot of its own outrageous flavour)
  • Jerusalem (I know it would be a really emotional experience but I can’t imagine not going? The history just outweighs Tel Aviv for this spot, but I want to travel all over Israel.)
  • Rome (I climbed that shit in Assassin’s Creed yo, I want to see it 3D.)
  • New York (who the fuck am i tbh)
  • Kiev (have you fucking seen how beautiful this city is)
  • Singapore (relatively close and pretty damn awesome!!)
  • Bled (it’s in Slovenia, look that shit up)
  • Monaco (ALL BOW DOWN TO THE GR8EST CITY TO HAVE EVER BEEN)

I have so many others (no seriously, SO MANY - the list of places I want to go is probably longer than it will take for me to see all said places), but I’m pretty happy with that top 10. The reason I didn’t include London or Paris are because I don’t really see them as a standalone place to travel to - that is, I would never go to London or Paris without seeing England, France and/or Europe as well, because I live in the backwoods of the world and will be getting all the culture shock I physically can before heading back to Australia.

What are some places you’d like to travel to/have been to (cities in particular!)?
